Prof Fernando Galembeck (UNICAMP, SP, Brazil) is one of the scientists distinguished with the III Scientists and Entrepreneurs of the Year Award by the Nanocell Institute. Galembeck was selected in the category “Professor,” in the area “Nanotechnology”.
Professor Galembeck, who has a broad history of research, development and innovation in materials, is a founding member of B-MRS and was highlighted this year by the society with the Memorial Lecture “Joaquim da Costa Ribeiro”.

B-MRS (Brazilian Materials Research Society) announces the list of winners of “Young Researcher Award” (YRA), an award from the Society bestowed on postdoctoral fellows, this year in partnership with E-MRS (European Materials Research Society).
The winners are:
The prize winners will participate in two invitation-only international events: “Forum for the Next Generation of Researchers 2017” (Strasbourg, France, 18-19 November 2017) and “6th World Materials Summit” (Strasbourg, France, 20-21 November 2017). They will have travel expenses covered.

Judging Committee
The winners were selected from 20 postdocs who submitted their applications by March 31 of this year. The selection of the YRA winners considered the eligibility criteria explained in the edict, the evaluation of the abstracts of the work to be presented in the events and the evaluation of the CV.

The application submission for the “2017 Young Researcher Award” is open until March 31. The award, launched by SBPMat, is now in partnership with E-MRS (European Society of Materials Research).
Postdoctoral fellows, SBPMat members with paid annuity fees, who defended their doctorates as of 2010 can apply. Up to four postdocs will be selected. The winners will be announced on May 15.
The award winners will participate, with lodging expenses paid, in two invitation-only international events: “Forum for the Next Generation of Researchers 2017” (Strasbourg, France, 18-19 November 2017) and “6th World Materials Summit” (Strasbourg, France, 20-21 November 2017).
In the Forum for the Next Generation of Researchers, the SBPMat award winners will be part of a select international group of young researchers and will interact with each other and with world-renowned senior scientists. The program includes activities developed by pairs of young researchers from different countries, their poster presentations and talks from senior scientists.
The World Materials Summit is an event that in addition to the young researchers, brings together representatives of science, business and politics, invited by the event organization to discuss social and economic challenges that Materials Science and Technology can help solve. The theme of this edition will be “materials innovation for the world economy and for a sustainable society.”

Among the nearly 1,300 papers accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Advanced Materials, IUMRS-ICAM 2015, held on the beautiful island of Jeju (Korea) in late October, eight studies were conducted in Brazil and one of them was awarded by the organization with the Best Poster Award.
The work, entitled “Flame Aerosol nanostructured titanium dioxide for coating: the control of crystallite size and phase by oxy-hydrogen flame” was presented as a poster by Mirella Nagib de Oliveira Boery, professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA). Mirella developed the research along with collaborators of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). “The idea of developing this research emerged during my master’s degree at Unicamp, in light of my concerns regarding the widespread use of TiO2, from paint to sunscreen,” she said. Mirella is currently continuing her studies at Unicamp, in the doctoral course of Mechanical Engineering.

Participam da seleção trabalhos inéditos nos níveis de especialização, mestrado e doutorado, de universidades públicas e particulares de toda a América Latina e Caribe.

Em um primeiro momento, serão pré-selecionados 10 trabalhos, premiados em US$ 2 mil cada. As pesquisas integrarão uma publicação distribuída em universidades e bibliotecas. Os dois grandes vencedores, divulgados até março de 2014, receberão mais US$10 mil por trabalho, além de US$ 5 mil para o professor-orientador.

O trabalho intitulado “Terapia laser de baixa intensidade e scaffolds de Biosilicato® no reparo ósseo em ratos”, desenvolvido pelo pós-doutorando Paulo Sérgio Bossini sob a supervisão da professora Ana Cláudia Muniz Rennó, do Departamento de Biociências da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), campus Baixada Santista, foi premiado pela North American Association for Light Therapy (NAALT) em um congresso realizado em Palm Beach Gardens, na Flórida, no início deste ano.
O trabalho está sendo realizado em parceria com os professores Edgar Dutra Zanotto, Oscar Peitl e Ana C. M. Rodrigues e o bolsista de doutorado Murilo Crovacce , do Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais (DEMa), pesquisadores do Laboratório de Materiais Vítreos (LaMaV), e o professor Nivaldo Antonio Parizotto, do Departamento de Fisioterapia, todos da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar).
O objetivo do estudo premiado foi avaliar os efeitos do Biosilicato®, material bioativo desenvolvido no LaMaV DEMa-UFSCar, na consolidação de defeitos ósseos induzidos em tíbias de ratos.
Todos os integrantes da equipe são pesquisadores principais ou colaboradores do CeRTEV (Center for Research, Technology and Education in Vitreous Materials) – um dos Centros de Pesquisa, Inovação e Difusão (Cepids) aprovados neste ano pela Fapesp.
O professor José Arana Varela, presidente do Conselho Técnico-Administrativo da FAPESP, coordenador da Divisão de Pesquisa do INCT dos Materiais em Nanotecnologia e ex-presidente da SBPMat, foi homenageado na sessão de abertura da “37th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites” no dia 28 de Janeiro de 2013 em Daytona Beach, Flórida, Estados Unidos.
Na ocasião o professor Varela recebeu o 2013 Global Star Award das mãos do presidente da American Ceramic Society, Dr. Richard K. Brow. O prêmio reconhece “relevantes contribuições” à área de pesquisa, segundo a American Ceramic Society (Acers), promotora do evento e mais importante instituição do gênero no mundo.
