XXII B-MRS Meeting (Santos): event report

The event held in late September and early October this year in Santos had a record 1,777 participants from all continents and all regions of Brazil. In addition to 29 symposia, 7 plenary lectures and 4 short courses, there were several new features in the program. Read our report of the event.

|
Marília Junqueira Caldas was awarded the Memorial Lecture Joaquim da Costa Ribeiro by B-MRS in recognition of her distinguished scientific career, dedicated mainly to the computational study of semiconductors. Learn more about this scientist in our interview.

Bluma Guenther Soares received the José Arana Varela Award for her vast and impactful scientific production and her work in training researchers. Learn a little about this scientist’s career and her advice for younger people in our interview.

In an interview with B-MRS, Ingrid David Barcelos, winner of the first edition of the B-MRS Early Career Woman Scientist Prize, spoke about her work and being a black female scientist. She also gave tips for conducting impactful research. Read the interview.

At the end of the event, 41 students were honored with the Bernhard Gross Award, 6 received prizes from ACS Publications and another 6 from the publisher of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In addition, 3 researchers won the prize and honorable mentions in the B-MRS Early Career Woman Scientist Prize. See the full list.

Professor Valtencir Zucolotto (IFSC-USP), a B-MRS member, and post-doc Natália Noronha Ferreira Naddeo won a medical innovation award for research on the use of nanotechnology to administer medication via the nose to combat a type of brain cancer.

Guest editors are members of the Brazilian materials community. Submissions are open until December 24th.
