Summary

The separation of gases in mixtures containing carbon dioxide, as well as its capture from the environment, requires the development of experimental techniques and device designs that contribute to environmental improvement. The project involves the development of ceramic membranes that conduct carbonate ions, including synthesis, physicochemical characterization, microstructural characterization, shaping, conventional sintering and electric-field-assisted sintering (flash sintering), as well as the determination of electrochemical and ionic permeability properties. The goal is to optimize inorganic carbonate-ion-conducting composites with adequate permeability for application in devices for CO₂ separation/capture.

The position is open to both Brazilian and international candidates. The FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship (https://fapesp.br/bolsas/pd) provides a monthly stipend of R$ 12,570.00 and a Technical Reserve equivalent to 10% of the annual fellowship amount.

The selected candidate will carry out research at IPEN laboratories under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Reginaldo Muccillo. Applicants must hold a PhD (obtained within the past 7 years, in Brazil or abroad) in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields. Required experience includes synthesis of inorganic compounds, microstructural characterization (X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy), and electrical characterization (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of solids). Proficiency in English (reading and writing) is also required.

Applicants must send the following documents by e-mail to muccillo@usp.br no later than May15, 2026:

  • FAPESP Curriculum Summary (guidelines for preparation),
  • a statement (max. 2 pages) describing experience in the areas listed above,
  • two recommendation letters.
