SYMPOSIUM F
Materials for Sensing and Biosensing

The development of new materials for sensing and biosensing is essential for strategic areas such as medicine and environment preservation. Efforts have focused in materials with specific, controllable properties, including hybrid nanostructured materials, biomolecules/bioinspired materials, and supramolecular nanostructures.
The Symposium will be highly multidisciplinary, and should include physicists, chemists, engineers and biologists, who may submit abstracts related to the following topics:

  • Biomaterials, biomimetic and Bio-inspired devices and materials;
  • Drug controlled release and monitoring;
  • Bio-hybrid composites;
  • Novel materials and architectures for chemically modified electrodes for sensing, including carbon materials (e.g., C60, fullerenes, nanotubes, diamond thin films), membranes, and novel potentiometric structures;
  • New integrated systems, including microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip, and novel commercial sensors;
  • New limits of dimensionality and sensitivity for micro- and nano-electrodes, including fabrication and miniaturization;
  • New arrays and geometries, including progress on individual addressability;
  • New means for enhancing mass transport and electron transfer, including microfluidics, magnetic fields, gradient fields, and novel electrocatalysts for analytes of practical interest;
  • New sensors including sensors for biomedical and environmental applications;
  • New methods for in vivo electrochemistry, wiring enzymes to electrodes, bioelectrocatalysis, and biofuel cells;
  • Field Effect Transistors (FET)-Based devices for sensing.
