Student Awards (Bernhard Gross Award)
The Bernhard Gross Award highlights the best oral presentation and the best poster of each symposium, among those presented by undergraduate and graduate students.
The selection is based on the evaluation carried out by the organizers of each symposium using criteria defined by the B-MRS Awards Committee.
The winners receive a certificate, and their names and pictures are published on B-MRS channels.
Among the winners of the Bernhard Gross Award, the works with the best evaluations from the entire event are chosen to receive prizes from the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
ACS Publications Student Prizes
Three posters and three oral presentations will receive the ACS Publications Best Poster Prize and the ACS Publications Best Oral Presentation Prize, respectively. The prizes will consist of R$ 1.700,00 for each winning work, in addition to the certificate.
RSC Student Prizes
Three posters and three oral presentations will receive the RSC Best Poster Prize and the RSC Best Oral Presentation Prize, respectively. The prizes will consist of R$ 1.700,00 for each winning work, in addition to the certificate.






Conditions to compete and receive the student awards and prizes:
- To be an undergraduate, master's or doctoral student. PhDs who completed their doctorate in 2024 and are presenting data from their thesis, will be allowed to compete for the award.
- To submit a conventional abstract to any B-MRS Meeting symposium as the author of the paper.
- To receive the notification of acceptance of the conventional abstract
- To submit an extended abstract of the work, according to the event template.
- To actually present the work in an oral or poster session at any B-MRS Meeting symposium. The presentation must be made by the student who is competing for the award.
- To be present at the closing ceremony of the B-MRS Meeting, which will be held on the last day of the event.
Evaluation criteria
- Understanding of the research topic by the candidate.
- Quality of the research carried out.
- Originality of the contribution.
- Presentation quality.
- Extended abstract quality.

B-MRS Early Career Woman Scientist Prize
This award recognizes the best work presented within the oral sessions of the B-MRS Meeting symposia by a woman with a PhD degree, at the beginning of her scientific career.
To select the winner, the organizers of each symposium will nominate up to one candidate, following criteria defined by the B-MRS Awards Committee. From this list, the award committee will select the winner.
The prize, sponsored by the publisher MDPI, consists of a value in reais equivalent to 500 Swiss francs and the opportunity to publish, free of charge, after peer review, an article in the open access journal Electronic Materials (MDPI).

Conditions to compete and receive the prize:
- To be a woman.
- To have defended the doctorate between 2016 and 2025.
- To submit the conventional abstract within any B-MRS Meeting symposium
- To receive the notification of acceptance of the conventional abstract.
- To submit an extended abstract of the work, according to the event template.
- To actually present the work in an oral session of any B-MRS Meeting symposium.
- To be present at the closing ceremony of the B-MRS Meeting, which will be held on the last day of the event.

- Sum of the impact factors of the work published by the researcher in the last 5 years.

Science Popularization Award
This award aims to encourage the community of the B-MRS Meeting to participate in scientific outreach activities. In its first edition, the focus is on disseminating materials research through short videos for social media.
To compete for the award, participants must produce a video that presents the research they are conducting in an attractive and simple way, for a non-specialist audience. The video may use any type of audiovisual resources.
The prizes, sponsored by the company Krilltech, consist of cash prizes of R$1,000, R$600 and R$400 for the first, second and third place winners, respectively.

Conditions to compete and receive the prize:
- To produce an original video and submit it by July 30, 2025 using the form

- The video format must maintain the 9:16 aspect ratio, which corresponds to a video recorded with the cell phone camera in vertical position.
- The video file extension must be MP4.
- All speeches in the video must be subtitled so that they can be heard and read.
- The language of the speeches and subtitles must be Portuguese.
- Each author may submit only one video.
- The author must be registered for the XXIII B-MRS Meeting and have at least one abstract approved for presentation in the event.
- To receive the award, the author must be present at the event's awards ceremony.
Selection of the winners
- All videos that meet the eligibility criteria will be published on the B-MRS Instagram throughout the month of August 2025 and will be grouped together in a highlight created especially for the occasion.
- The 10 videos that receive the most likes on Instagram by September 15, 2025 will qualify for the second phase.
- The award selection committee will analyze the classified videos and each of the members will vote for first, second and third place. The videos with the most votes will be declared the winners.
- The three winning videos will be shown during the awards ceremony of the XXIII B-MRS Meeting, which will be held on October 2, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm, at the event venue (Salvador Convention Center). The authors of the videos will receive certificates and cash prizes.
Evaluation criteria
- Suitability of the video for a non-specialist audience.
- Accuracy in the presentation of scientific concepts.
- Creativity.
