The great development of nanoscience and nanotechnology is mainly marked by its inter and multidisciplinary nature, whereby nanomaterials are developed for applications in various areas such as physics, chemistry, engineering, biotechnology and agriculture.

 From the many areas at the frontier of science and technology, developments associated with biotechnology and agriculture are crucial for developing nations owing to the their impact on food production, renewable sources of energy and materials for such renewable sources. The symposium will be inter and multidisciplinary a forum for discussing the cross-relationships between nanomaterials and agriculture and biotechnology. Emphasis will also be placed on the environmental and sanitary impact of nanomaterials, in order to discuss possible social impacts of the use of nanotechnology.

The topics to be covered include

• Nanomaterials, nanostructures and nanocomposites from renewable sources;
• Bio-inspired nanomaterials;
• Nanomaterials and nanostructures for environmental remediation;
• Sanitary aspects of nanostructures and applications in anti-microbial systems;
• Nanostructured sensors for applications in food, water and environmental control;
• Nanostructured biosensors;
• Advances in bio-nanomaterials;
• Nanostructures for controlled release of drugs, agro-chemicals and others;
• Separation membranes and thin films for food packaging;
• Toxicology of nanomaterials and nanostructures;
• Environmental impacts of nanomaterials.
