Scientific Program

SYMPOSIUM E
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HYBRID MATERIALS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS

The field of hybrid inorganic-organic materials represents one of the major growth areas of materials science in the early part of the 21st century. Systems of interest include a wide variety of composite materials in which the inorganic and organic components are usually present in different phases. Hybrid nanocomposites and biominerals are important groups in this area. The field of hybrids would also include framework structures in which inorganic and organic groups co-exist within a single phase. For example, metal-organic framework structures and mesoporous silicas fall into this category. The meeting aims to be inclusive of these and other related areas, and to explore the learnings that might be transferred from one area to another. The symposium aims at 70 to 100 participants (of which 20 from USA supported by ICMR).

Program topics includes the following:

  • Hybrid Inorganic-Organic Framework Structures: hybrid metal oxides, coordination polymers, hybrid
    precursors for ceramics, etc;
  • Polymer-Inorganic Nanocomposites : polymer-carbon nanotube composites, polymer-clay composites,
    core-shell materials, POSS xerogels ;

  • Mesoporous and Silica-based Materials: mesoporous silica systems, other inorganic and organic
    mesopores, glass-based nanocomposites ;

  • Hybrid biomaterials: biominerals, bio-nanomaterials;

  • Metal-based Nanocomposites: metal-carbon composites, metal-dendrimer nanocomposites.

Keywords: Hybrid materials, (nano composite), organic/inorganic, framework structures, hybrid biomaterials, synthesis, caractariozation/applications

Papers from this Symposium will be published in a Special Issue of Journal of Materials Science

To be considered for this special issue, the Brazilian MRS paper number should precede the title of the paper on the manuscript. This number will be removed before publication.

The submission window for full manuscripts will be October 1 until November 30, 2006.

1) Go to www.editorialmanager.com/jmsc/
2) Follow Instructions for Authors
3) Be sure to select "Brazil MRS 2006" for your submission category

Journal of Materials Science Editors Grant Norton, Mark Aindow and Barry Carter will be present at the meeting to answer any questions.

All papers will be fully reviewed in the usual way. Symposia chairs will be sent a copy of each submitted paper
