Scientific Program

SYMPOSIUM B
RECENT ADVANCES ON POWDER TECHNOLOGY

Powder technology involves the production and shaping of metallic, ceramic and composite powders into industrial components. Additional thermal, thermochemical and surface treatments can be carried out to tailor the target properties of a variety of both traditional and innovative products and components. Research on both powders and sintered materials has been intense in several countries, including Brazil. Recent scientific and technological advances have driven forward the use of particulate materials and largely contributed to the industrial development of numerous areas including the automotive and electro-mechanic industry, structural and technical ceramics, electronics, appliances, and pigments, to name a few. The present event aims at establishing a multidisciplinary environment to researchers, professionals and students, suitable for the presentation and information exchange regarding recent scientific and technological advances and innovations on the synthesis, processing, characterization and application of powdered materials.

The scientific program of the symposium includes invited lecturers in addition to both oral and poster presentations covering the most relevant areas related to particulate materials, including but not limited to:

  • Powder Synthesis and Production;
  • Powder shaping;
  • Sintering;
  • Thermal and thermochemical surface treatments applied to sintered materials;
  • Microstructure and microstructural modeling of powdered and sintered materials;
  • Characterization and properties of powdered materials;
  • Alloy Design and Development;
  • Intermetallics, ceramics, composites;
  • Novel materials and emerging areas;
  • Functionally graded materials (FGMs);
  • Micro, meso and nanoporous materials;
  • Catalytic materials.

Keywords: powder technology, synthesis, shaping, sintering, characterization.

Papers from this Symposium will be published in a Special Issue of Journal of Materials Science

To be considered for this special issue, the Brazilian MRS paper number should precede the title of the paper on the manuscript. This number will be removed before publication.

The submission window for full manuscripts will be October 1 until November 30, 2006.

1) Go to www.editorialmanager.com/jmsc/
2) Follow Instructions for Authors
3) Be sure to select "Brazil MRS 2006" for your submission category

Journal of Materials Science Editors Grant Norton, Mark Aindow and Barry Carter will be present at the meeting to answer any questions.

All papers will be fully reviewed in the usual way. Symposia chairs will be sent a copy of each submitted paper
