Symposium V

Frontiers in sol-gel materials

Scope of the Symposium

Sol?gel chemistry offers a flexible approach to obtaining a diverse range of materials. It is a low temperature chemistry that offers the possibility to control the material structure at the molecular level, giving rise to the design of a wide range of nano and micro-structures with diverse applications, such as solar cells, drug delivery, photonics, catalysis, biosensors, biomaterials, among others. Nowadays sol-gel processing is used at industrial scale for producing ceramics, coatings, abrasive layers, aerogels, membranes, and optical fibres. In this symposium, we propose to update with well-known scientists in the field the state-of-the art in the fundamentals of sol-gel chemistry, as well as recent advanced materials synthesized by this route. We expect fruitful scientific discussions with participation of students, scientists, and industrial developers.
